Overview

This tense top-down survival adventure title caters up to 8 players. The Red Solstice is based on the Night of the Dead map for StarCraft. Though developer Ironward took the idea much further. To coincide with the Free Weekend, there’s a brand new game mode titled; “Outpost Defense”. The goal is simple: survive as long as you can, defending your outpost from waves of enemies.

Inspired by Starship Troopers, the gameplay presented is fast and frantic. The Outpost has 300 HP, and HP will drop by 5 for each player outside of the Outpost. Reaper turret missions spawn every 5 waves. Waves vary in difficulty, with some sure to test your abilities to their fullest.

Given every 60 seconds are various supplies. Enemy waves in normal mode are every 60 seconds; in fast mode they will spawn every 30 seconds. You can select this new in game mode under SECTOR > OUTPOST DEFENSE.

Game Review

The Red Solstice is a fun RPG shooter. Yet, the game is very generic and plays on pretty much every single sci-fi cliché. The game design and graphics are okay and for the most part, very detailed. You have a vast array of ways you can upgrade your player.

Yet, the learning curve for this game is something to consider. Jumping head first into Red solstice is not recommended. The controls are simple and with a good gamer mouse very efficient. As with most shooter type games you have to learn the controls before you start playing. With The Red Solstice unless you’re an experienced gamer you cannot learn the ins and outs as you go along.

The story of the game is generic and cliché. It bears similarity to other games such as Doom, Xenowerk, and Loaded. The voice acting is bad and bland at times. Which in a game like this hurts the character because it makes them feel incomplete.

The combat in the game is good and fast paced. The game does push you more towards the multiplayer modes. Which is fun. The campaign mode of this game is also good. The biggest difference between multiplayer and solo player are as follows:

• In solo player mode you can use your slow down tactic and slow down your enemy’s approach. Also, you can control your entire squad and you have to rely more on strategies and tactics.

• In multiplayer modes, you can only control yourself. You’re also restricted from using the slow down tactic feature.

Final thoughts.

The Red Solstice is very generic and cliché. If you like sci-fi shooters that take place on mars you will like this game. This game is a decent RPG sci-fi shooter. Yet, the learning curve may seem complicated to some. As a result. players need to learn tactics and controls before playing.

The graphics featured in are satisfactory in detail. The developers, Ironward are on the right track for this game. Yet, they should spend some more time developing the story and characters. Another suggestion is making the learning curve shorter.
