Pool Party Massacre is a debut feature from director Drew Marvick. The trailer shows like an exploitation sleaze fest equipped with mediocre, but fun gore and kills.
Four young women are having a pool party that turns into a bloodbath when they are stalked and preyed on by an unknown sadistic predator who murders them with axes and chainsaws.
The Pool Party Massacre first trailer released! It’s a brief 30-second teaser clip that pretty much sums up the premise of the film. The film pays homage to the B-movies of the 80’s and it definitely shows.
The gore and special effects are mentally cringe-worthy but look mediocre. It may fail in its attempt to gross out hardcore viewers. Gore has a much higher chance at success when it looks real and believable.
If The Pool Party Massacre pays homage to classic slashers there is one thing to note. There were decent films during that era that succeeded in special effects and gore. The Evil Dead, Sleepaway Camp, and Hellraiser are three very good examples. And these are only the tip of the iceberg.
Equipped with cheap thrills, cheesy kills, and mediocre special effects, I’d say Marvick’s film is a great movie to watch. This is true for a quiet, lazy Friday night or even have a slasher night slumber party with friends.
