Bubba the Redneck Werewolf From Comic to Screen
Bubba the Redneck Werewolf should be a name that resonate with comic book aficionados. Making its first appearance in 1996, The first Bubba story was in “Bound in Darkness” the infinity issue. The Lycan, backwoods character would eventually grace the pages of humor magazine, Cracked and webcomic The Devils Panties. Derived from the mind of self publisher Mitch Hyman, “Bubba the Redneck Werewolf” was best summarized by Robert K. Elder, Tribune staff reporter
“It’s the story of [Bubba], a dogcatcher in a small Florida town … There was a cosmetic factory that opened up in this little town and they were dumping their toxic waste into the swamps. One of the experiments that they were working with was on a poodle that had Bulgarian toxic waste used on it so it could test glow-in-the-dark mascara for the company. Well, the dog got evilly intelligent and escaped. Unfortunately, they sent Bubba out after it and Bubba just got bit by the wrong dog. It’s comedy/horror. It’s just slapstick, fall-down, insane comedy.”
With its popularity on the indie comic book circuit, “Bubba the Redneck Werewolf” was destined to be made into a feature film. According to IMDB.com the film was due for release on October 14th 2014, and the trailer (see above) was released on September 30th 2014.

The film a collaborative production between Two Rubbing Nickels and And You Films. In development, The film adaptation to the popular comic book series doesn’t have a release set. However, its safe to assume that it will in fact be released sometime soon.
Basically, you’re looking at a cult classic in the making. The concept itself is so comical it quickly brings to mind those whimsical horror characters so prevalent in the eighties horror cinema. In addition, this is an indie production and that simply signifies that audiences will be in for unfiltered wackiness and creative expression.
This film may appeal to the Horror fan looking to exchange blood curling terror for outrageous wackiness. Stay tuned to DecayMag.com for further developments on this project.
