Production begins on the live-action adaptation to Rei Mikamoto’s horror fantasy manga, Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw. The tentative release date is scheduled for January 2016. At the helm is Hiroki Yamaguchi with Mitsunori Fukuhara penning the script.
Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw debuted in 2009 published through Kadokawa’s Comic Beam magazine. Kadokawa also published Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw ninth and tenth compiled book volumes.
The unofficial synopsis to Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw reads as follows:
Geeko’s weird, creepy, friendless classmate Nero has destroyed all of their mutual classmates, perverting them into her grotesque, monstrous minions. Now she’s sending them after Geeko, the only survivor. However, Geeko is setting out, dressed in her skimpy school uniform and armed with a big chainsaw, to end Nero’s mad science, no matter how many undead former friends she has to saw down on the way.
Rio Uchida will star as Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw’s titular character Geeko. Rio Uchida is no stranger in live action adaptation of manga characters.
Rio Uchida’s notable credit include her role as the main heroine in the live-action adaption to Kamen Rider Drive, the twenty fifth series installment to Kamen Rider. Rio Uchida also starred in the TV drama adaptation of the manga Okitegami Kyōko no Bibōroku (The Notebook of Kyōko Okitegami).
