The Black Gloves tells the story of a psychologist obsessed with the disappearance of his young patient, and the menacing owl-headed figure that plagued her nightmares. In the bleak Scottish highlands, Finn counsels his new patient, under the watchful eye of her sinister ballet teacher. He soon finds himself entangled in a ballet of paranoia, dark agendas and a maze of deadly twists and turns, as the legend of the Owlman becomes a terrifying reality.
The Black Gloves is currently in post-production. From the dynamic duo who brought us the ingenious Lord of Tears, Director Lawrie Brewster, and Writer Sarah Daly is back. In The Black Gloves; Finn Galloway, a psychologist travels to an isolated house. Actor Jamie Scott Gordon portrays the role of the protagonist. There, Galloway meets Elisa Grey, a wondrous, but mysterious woman. Alexandra Nicole Hulme plays the role of Grey. Lorena Velasco is the next woman Galloway meets. Portrayed by Macarena Gómez. Velasco appears to be Grey’s mentor of some sort. Brief snapshots of the Olwman interweave the clips.
The trailer emerges between subtle and calm to dark and intense. The cinematography in black, white, and gray. This is a modern Noir film. A creepy melody plays in the background. Films that brings to mind; A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night and The Eyes of My Mother. Both of these films are cinematic masterpieces. Timeless.
The Black Gloves takes after its sister film, Lord of Tears. You can definitely see the resemblance. The dark, eerie, mystery of the cinematography combined with creepy music and sounds. Even the story looks to resemble this film.
Alexandra Nicole Hulme and Jamie Scott Gordon plays different roles. Yet the characters seem parallel to that of Brewster and Daly’s films. Hulme plays the bright and vibrant hopeful damsel in distress. This mirrors her character; Eve Turner. Gordon plays the character that has secrets waiting to unveil. This parallels the character, Allen Milton.
It’s interesting to note that Gordon played an antagonist in Lord of Tears. This alongside the Owl Man, or “Moloch”. In The Black Gloves, he has appeared to have switched roles. Also, Hulme played both an antagonist and protagonist in the previous film. This character looks to be quite similar. Another intriguing observation is that Gordon appears to be in Euan Douglas’ role. Douglas portrayed James Findlay in Lord of Tears
All-in-all, The Black Gloves looks to be either a prequel to Lord of Tears or a sequel. It could also be a spin-off. In any case, everything looks to tie in together in some form or fashion.
I must say that I am a big fan of the choice of cinematography and the artistry. It’s refreshing and invigorating. The musical scores are amazing. They enhance the eerie vibes of the film. A nice break from the constant releases of the Found-Footage scene.
