Project Overview

Sophie’s 18th birthday party becomes a bloodbath when six terrifying monsters descend upon her house, intent on devouring the party guests and killing anyone who tries to leave…

As her school friends are torn apart and devoured, Sophie must rally a band of misfits and take up arms to send their party crashers back to hell. In order to survive the night, Sophie will face her destiny; monsters are real – and she’s the only one who can stop them.

The only thing is, this isn’t like other horror movies. In this movie…YOU GET TO CHOOSE THE MONSTERS!

Overview

Book of Monsters is a female-driven monster movie drawing inspiration from the cult horror cinema of the 80’s and 90’s. Films including Scream, Gremlins, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer are drawing points. With sick, gory practical creature effects and a dark comedic edge, Book of Monsters will be a fun, bloody and sexy trip back to a time when making it through high school was life or death.

The project is in the early stages of pre-production. The Kickstarter Campaign launched a few days ago and made $12,051 towards its goal of $58,956. Sixteen (16) day now remain. This is an all-or-nothing campaign. The project will only get funds if it reaches its goal. To support Book of Monsters, visit Kickstarter and make a pledge today.

Project

Book Of Monsters is the first horror movie where you, our backers, can influence the story…

When you pledge to our campaign you will be able to vote on six major story elements of the movie! From choosing the Monsters Sophie and her friends will be fighting, to choosing a character’s gruesome death, we want you to decide how the film is going to play out!

There are six categories of terror and every pledge lets you vote for your favorites in each category. Once we’ve received and counted all the votes, we will put the winning choices in the movie!

The Book of Monsters trailer looks like a fun time. It reminds me of an 80s monster flick. Sophie has just turned eighteen (18) and celebrates her journey into womanhood by having a wild party full of adults and risky behavior. What starts as a night of fun turns into a night of fright when she receives a strange book on her doorstep. This unleashes a horde of monsters.

But this monster flick has an interesting twist, where backers of the crowdfunding campaign will vote for how the movie proceeds, including the monsters, the violence, and the kills. While this is the first movie to do this, this concept takes me back to the books of R.L. Stine. The Choose Your Own Ending collection where the reader gets to choose how the story proceeds as they read. Even Stine hasn’t attempted this concept in cinema.

I am hoping there are some creative imaginations out there since the fate of the movie will rest in the backers’ hands (evil laugh). Okay, that was a little dramatic. However, this concept is an awesome pitch, sure enough. It’s rejuvenating in this day and age in Horror cinema and could be the groundbreaking theme to a whole new circuit.

Donations will go towards the costs of production, including Practical Creature Effects, Cast and Crew, Catering and Accommodation, Kickstarter and Processing Fees, Rewards, Costumes and Props, Insurance, Film Festivals, and other production costs.

The pledges range from £10 to £ 5,000 ($13 to $6520) with the Executive Producer pledge reaping rewards such as

  • IMDb credit
  • Invitations to special events
  • Consultation and feedback on your own project,

And more.
