The BBC gives over a whole evening to an ‘investigation into the supernatural’. Four respected presenters and a camera crew attempt to discover the truth behind ‘The most haunted house in Britain’, expecting a light-hearted scare or two and probably the uncovering of a hoax.
They think they are in control of the situation. They think they are safe. The viewers settle down and decide to watch ‘for a laugh’. Ninety minutes later the BBC, and the country, was changed, and the consequences are still felt today.
Ghostwatch will release on Shudder. The Horror, faux-paranormal documentary first aired on Halloween in 1992 as a TV Movie via the BBC. The program was part of the BBC Screen One anthology series. Shudder is a subscription with a free trial. To watch this iconic documentary, subscribe to Shudder today.

Ghostwatch never aired nor did it become available on home video in the United States. The film aired once on BBC1 on Halloween night 1992. The presentation was live television event. It was never disclosed to be a Horror Mockumentary. This resulted in an estimated 30,000 panic calls to the BBC switchboard in a single hour.
Ghostwatch never re-aired on UK television, and was banned in the UK. The film released on DVD by the British Film Institute in 2002. Ghostwatch features actual BBC personalities playing themselves. This adding to the confusion for an unsuspecting audience.
Shudder becomes the first premium streaming channel to release this controversial documentary. This wouldn’t be the first time Shudder has come through for Horror fans.
Catering to the independent scene Shudder has shed light on lesser known titles. Also presented are those hard to find titles. These are movies that you can’t find on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or any other streaming service.
There are a lot of streaming platforms available nowadays. They were blooming like flowers. Yet, not all offer quality service. Not to mention a lot of these sites are illegal. Here is where the fine line lies.
Manning’s controversial documentary has also trended in a cult following. National Séance is an annual event held on Halloween at 9:25 P.M.
Fans are encouraged to play their own personal copies of the documentary and live tweet the special. 9:25 P.M. marks the time the original Ghostwatch documentary aired on BBC on Halloween in 1992.
