An unknown accident occurs in Tokyo Bay’s Aqua Line, which causes an emergency cabinet to assemble. All of the sudden, a giant creature immediately appears, destroying town after town with its landing reaching the capital.

Godzilla Resurgence, also known as Shin Gojira, is nearing it’s premiere release date. The Action, Adventure, Drama, written and directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, will release in Japan on July 29, 2016. But it will also have an American release as well, as Funimation Films have revealed during the 2016  San Diego Com-Con convention.

“The agreement includes theatrical, home entertainment, video on demand and broadcast rights for the upcoming Japanese live-action feature film and covers all of the Americas (North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean). Funimation is currently planning to release Shin Godzilla in theaters in late 2016.”

It certainly is exciting that after all of these years, the franchise is still around, and lively, I might add. I can’t believe the very first film was released in the 50’s. Now, over six decades later, and after numerous films, we are still being entertained by the franchise.

I have to say that this doesn’t happen very often. Not many cinema franchises can keep the flame burning for very long, so it is a pleasure to see yet another installment.

The franchise has come a long way. First introduced to us by Ishiro Honda, it’s had so many different adaptations, from its Japanese origination, too, now, modern day America. I know the original film will always be near and dear to the fans. Although the franchise has been re-imagined in countless ways since it’s origination, I like the progression of the series through the years.

Godzilla Resurgence is the 29th film produced by Toho, and will represent a brand new chapter in 62-year history.
