Gunnar Hansen Succumbs to Cancer, age 68
Gunnar Hansen, author, editor but is most remembered for his portrayal of the iconic villain in Horror cinema, Leatherface. Then unknown director Tobe Hooper had cast the Icelandic-born actor, Gunnar Hansen as the flesh-mask wearing, chainsaw-wielding psychotic for the film titled “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. Released in 1974, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” went on to become a prestigious genre entry and a Horror cult classic.
Gunnar Hansen truly delved into the role of the nefarious villain, Leatherface. In fact ,the final scene of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” where the villain, Leatherface maniacally twirls a chainsaw on a deserted stretch of road has become synonymous with Horror cinema. Aside from his role in “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” Gunnar Hansen also starred in low-budget horror movies, with titles such as; “Chainsaw Sally” and “Swarm of the Snakehead.” His filmography can be viewed at IMDB.com. On the 4th of September 2013, Gunnar Hansen released a book titled; “Chain Saw Confidential” a non-fiction behind-the-scenes chronicle of the film; “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. Recently, Gunnar Hansen had written and produced a Horror film about a prison break at a secret underground government facility titled; “Death House”. The Horror film; “Death House” will be produced next year in memory of Gunnar Hansen.
Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, on March 4, 194, Gunnar Hansen migrated to the United Stated at a young age with his family. Gunnar Hansen succumbed to his battle with pancreatic cancer at age sixty-eight at his home in Northeast Harbor, Maine. He is survived by his partner of 13 years, Betty Tower. Gunnar Hansen will forever be remebered for his contribution to Horror cinema, immortalized as a Horror legend.
