A child possessed. An exorcist locked in combat with an ancient evil. In the battle for saving a soul, just who really is the ‘Hostage to the Devil’?
The initial thoughts for Hostage to the Devil were erroneous. We received an email from the production team earlier this week. Our reaction glancing at the title was “Here we go, another found footage film”. This was not the case after examining the trailer for Hostage to the Devil.
The footage provided does not convey a work of fiction. Instead, Lysaght and Stalker co-wrote a documentary based on true accounts. Hostage to the Devil explores purported accounts of demonic possession. Whether these events, influences of satanic forces are true or not is open for debate. The film opens debate and interpretation from viewers.
The title of the film borrows from the book published in 1975. Contained within were accounts of demonic, possession and the presence of demons. The book by Jesuit priest Malachi Martin chronicled his efforts as an exorcist. As for the trailer, Hostage to the Devil documents claims on the supernatural.
The documentary offers an inside look at the work of Malachi Martin. The work in this instance centers on fighting the forces of evil. Many in the Horror community will find the film to be both exciting and an eye opener. Hostage to the Devil takes the thought of fiction into reality thus becoming an engaging topic to debate on.
Hostage to the Devil features insights from respectable names in paranormal research. This includes demonologist and former NYPD Detective Ralph Sarchie. Sarchie’s own encounter with demonic influences became a feature film. Directed by Scott Derrickson the Horror, Thriller released in 2014.
The following is an excerpt from the press released issued to DecayMag.
Using first person interviews with paranormal royalty such as Lorraine Warren, Ralph Sarchie, and John Zaffis, along with dramatic reconstructions, archival evidence, and words straight from Martin, this spine-chilling documentary takes the audience on a journey through an extraordinary life marked by battles against the Vatican, scandal, contention, and most of all, a deep and all-encompassing belief in the theory and practice of exorcism.
