“Lavalantula” SyFy’s new Creature Venture..

Syfy’s latest monster mashup, “Lavalantula” aired back in July during “Sharknado week”.  Alchemy, the largest independent distributor of film and television content in North America announced the DVD release to “Lavalantula” slated for  the 3rd of November 2015.  “Lavalantula” is directed by Mike Mendez, who incidentally also directed the arachnid comedy/horror “Big Ass Spider” and is written by the collaborative team of Neil Elman and Ashley O’Neil.

“Lavalantula” Stars Steve Guttenberg, Leslie Easterbrook, and Michael Winslow  collectively from “Police Academy” fame, Nia Peeples, star of television soap opera series “Young And The Restless”, Ralph Garman, entertainment reporter for Los Angeles morning show and they are joined by veteran actors Patrick Renna, and Danny Woodburn

According to Deadline, Syfy officially green lit the sequel to “Lavalantula” in hopes of mirroring the success of the 2013 shark themed horror/comedy “Sharknado”.   from Cinetel Films, the “Lavalantula” sequel will be comically titled; “2 Lava 2 Lantula!” Although slated for a summer 2016 release, further information on the cast, crew and production for the “Lavalantula” sequel have yet to established.   However, “2 Lava 2 Lantula!” will most likely feature Steve Guttenberg reprising his role from “Lavalantula”. In an interview with channelguidemagblog, Steve Guttenberg stated:

“Yeah, of course. That’s part of being a working actor today. You know, Johnny Depp is doing, I think Pirates of the Caribbean 5, and Robert Downey has done three Iron Mans and two Avengers. Mark Ruffalo has done two Avengers; some of the greatest actors around are doing sequels. They’re doing another Now You See Me with Ruffalo and Woody Harrelson, so I think that doing sequels is a smart thing.”

The synopsis to the film, “Lavalantula”

After a dormant volcano erupts miles outside of Los Angeles, something within the molten hot lava is awakened. Birthed from the bowels of the Earth itself, arachnid-like creatures with an obsidian-black exoskeleton swarm out. One man, Colton West, a washed-up, former A-list action star, suddenly finds himself the real life hero as he’s forced to use his on screen characters’ know-how to save the entire city from being victims to the most horrifying villains you couldn’t write any better.
