Mummy: Alex Kurtzman’s Remake to the 1932 Original Film

Mummy Overview Mummy Remake Rumors Tom Cruise“The Mummy” remake is currently in development and has a release date of January 9, 2017. The film will, reportedly, star Sofia Boutella (“Kingsman: The Secret Service”, “Street Dance 2”, “Monsters: Dark Continent”) and award-winning, Tom Cruise (“Top Gun”, “Mission: Impossible”, “Jerry Maguire”, “A Few Good Men”).

Cruise MummyThe original 1932 classic “The Mummy” is from director Karl Freund, and starred Boris Karloff. It became an instant success in its time, and has paved the way for many sequels in its legacy. From the 30’s till the current day, “The Mummy” legacy still remains one of the most beloved.

For those of you who are not familiar with the story of “The Mummy”, it’s synopsis is pretty simple:

“A living mummy stalks the beautiful woman he believes is the reincarnation of his lover.”

Fast forward to the Present Day, Kurtzman’s “The Mummy” remake appears to be the remake of a remake. Stephen Sommers’ 1999 remake is a modernized adaptation of the 1932 classic. It starred Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weiz, and John Hannah.

The Mummy (2017) Production Information


The story follows Navy Seal Tyler Colt and his mission in the Iraqi desert to find a group of terrorists hiding out in a bunker. To his and his team’s surprise, the terrorists within the bunker turn out be nothing more than some grave robbers who have all magically died. Upon entering the bunker Tyler and his team also succumb to some mystical forces out of their control. They soon realize the bunker they have infiltrated is actually a centuries old tomb. Mayhem erupts as all the Navy Seal members start turning on one another and are captivated by the forces within the tomb. Tyler is the only one to make it all the way deep within the tomb alive to find a black iron sarcophagus. It’s marked with Egyptian symbols like the Ankh and Eye of Horus. Here Tyler is entreated by the forces to open the sarcophagus and release what is inside. But after placing his hand on the sarcophagus, he is immediately stabbed in the palm with a star shaped symbol. From then on Tyler’s mind is cursed with visions of Ashirtniple King of Assyria.

Yet, the casting information for “The Mummy” is not yet set in stone. It still awaits confirmation form Universal. What information is solid as of this date is that Kurtzman will direct and the set will film in Malta. This according to the local newspaper, Times of Malta.
