Okja: Jake Gyllenhaal to Star

Okja: Joon-ho Bong’s Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

Director: Joon-ho Bong

Writer: Joon-ho Bong, Jon Ronson

Release Date: TBA, 2017

Okja is currently in the filming stage of production. The Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi is directed by Joon-ho Bong, co-written by Jon Ronson, and co-produced by Plan B Entertainment. Netflix will invest $50 million to back it. Filming will take place in Manhattan, South Korea, and Canada.

A young girl named Mija risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named Okja.

Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the top stars in Okja, and according to sources, this role will be a very different role for him.

“He was spotted near Wall Street in New York City, wearing a ridiculous costume consisting of shorts, round glasses, and a fake mustache.”

Donnie Darko and Nightcrawler are two films in particular, where Gyllenhaal has transcended boundaries and his performances were paramount.

Tilda Swinton was seen getting close to Gyllenhaal on the set as they were filming, and this is an exciting surprise twist for her, being a primary advocate of the Action, Adventure, Drama, and Fantasy scene, with some dark films popping up here and there: The Beach, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and Constantine, to name a few.

Also, starring in Okja are: Paul Dano, Lily Collins, Kelly Macdonald, Giancarlo Esposito, Devon Bostick, Stephen Yeun, Shirley Henderson, Daniel Henshall, Myles Humphus, Woo-sik Choi, Seo-Hyeon Ahn, Milo Shandel, J.C. Williams, Jamar Greene, Hie-Bong Byeon, Colm Hill, Je-mun Yun, and Jada Jarvis.

Okja is produced, executive produced and co-produced by Dooho Choi, Dede Gardner, Lewis DecayMag.com Joon-ho Bong, Jon Ronson's OkjaTaewan Kim, Woosang Kim, Jeremy Kleiner, Sandro Kopp, Brad Pitt, Ted Sarandos, Woo-sik Seo, Tilda Swinton, and Stan Wlodkowski.

Okja looks to be a different kind of monster flick. Looking at pictures of the cast on the set, it gives a vibrant and colorful vibe. Looking at the costumes, it makes me think of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

There is not yet a trailer released for Okja. No official release date has been confirmed. Stay tuned for updates.
