8:30 PM Eastern Standard Time has an intriguing concept that captures the viewer from the beginning. An intimate production in all aspects; concept, story, cinematography, acting. Depression can be a horrifying experience in real life, and many people suffer from this. Filmmakers have used this true-to-life concept with a twist that excels.
Depression in Horror productions is more than just that. As seen in Erfurth’s film, Sarah suffers from deep depression, which makes her take a leap down the rabbit hole and lose herself to the darkness. She finds a document giving her the answer to her problems; for the price of her soul. Being she’s already given up on life, she finds this a fair trade.
McKenna-Bruce puts on a great performance as Sarah. She displays depression well, and the misery her character is in. A backstory here would suffice. We know her mother has passed away, but the film doesn’t shed light on the circumstance. Her father is an alcoholic, but the film doesn’t show at what point he became this way. I can make speculation about events, but nothing is concrete.
The makeup of the Devil differs from what’s seen in a lot of films. Leach does well in this role. Yet, a little more pertaining to this character would suffice.
8:30 PM Eastern Standard Time has a great concept and story, yet, it needs more development here. Backstories on certain characters can enhance the story.
