Carlos Omar de León’s latest Horror short is Invoke. According to the up and coming filmmaker, his latest film is slated for film festival circulation in 2017. The Horror short Invoke also serves as a visual model for a potential full feature adaptation.

Invoke, the title itself has a double significance. After watching the film its supernatural theme becomes obvious. Yet, the title also supports the summoned creativity in this visual composition.

The opening scene is nothing but simple. Contained in this part of the presentation is an established shot of two young lovers. Artistic shades of color bathe the characters. The colors gels used on the lighting enhances this scene tenfold. A craft in the lighting department continued throughout the duration of the film. In fact, dark to low-lit conditions were well executed.

The portrayals are also a key contributor to de Leon’s film. Debbi Jones and Bret DeJager offered a well-balanced chemistry. Jones, in particular, conveyed a believable exhibition driven by believable emotional content.

Carlos Omar de León and Vorasine Vince Phrommany recalibrated a classic story. The duo modernized an overplayed urban legend and converted it as a fresh narrative. Implementing technology as an added component sets the film apart from being a cliché.

The reveal of the antagonist lacked impact. With the elaborate build a frighting unveiling was the expected result. Yet, the antagonist had a typical on screen delivery.
