Impressions
“Life prepares us for death”
Brought to us by Director Brian Kohne, Kuleana tells the tale of a peaceful land in desperate need of saving from the modernists of the world. The locations used for shooting were both beguiling and breathtaking; a wondrous spectacle that raised the tiny little hairs on the back of my neck, exciting me with its prepossessing nature.
A film based heavily on past traditions Kuleana filled me with a sort of amazement that in all honesty, I did not expect to feel when sitting down to watch this film. I’m glad I did however as the story was beautifully told and the acting superb. Throughout the journey of Kuleana, I connected emotionally with the characters. I felt as if I myself were there, a brilliant credit to the director/writer for making such feelings possible.
The plot starts off weak but grows stronger as the film progresses, a necessary build-up to the overall establishment of the roles of the actors and their characters. With controversial themes raising their head in this adaption of the history of Hawaii, Kuleana is a film that will definitely take you on a rollercoaster ride of intense, powerful emotion.
The film features a cast staring Moronai Kanekoa, Kristina Anapau, Sonya Balmores and Stefan C. Schaefer in roles that will break your heart.
An overall breathtaking experience, raw, real and ready to blow your mind. Sit down and prepare yourself for what is Kuleana!
