What Becomes Of Us

Overview

What Becomes of Us is yet another anthology film to drop onto Horror market. The challenge with these type of films is to have a cohesive expression and a uniform communication to the theme.

In What Becomes of Us tales of the supernatural, psychological Thrillers and a touch of a murder mystery element comprise the narratives. Each account is displayed as drama infused mini-segments. The traditional intervals and/or bizarre host are absent in this production. Straying away from those facets sets What Becomes of Us apart from comparable anthology films on the market. Yet, what are the other pros and/or cons this upcoming film delivers?

What Becomes Of Us

Impressions

The visual aesthetics is the focal point for What Becomes of Us. The camera work and how the director uses creative treatment of depth of field and angles. Not only do we see finesse with the visual narrative but the lighting also decorated a striking canvas. With the cinematography What Becomes of Us excels with it production value. I felt pleased that heavy CGI and found footage elements didn’t find a place in this piece.

The performances were satisfactory and audiences will note this with the overall presentation, it is impressive. With closer examination, astute audiences will uncover the questionable acting due to the slight scarcity of emotions and delivery. Although these negatives are visible it carries little to hinders the overall quality of the film. Compared to the overall indie scene, audiences will not encounter the tortuous mind-numbing B-Movie quality in What Becomes of Us.

What Becomes Of Us

Most anthology films pay tribute to an era and/or cater to a specific film aesthetic. With What Becomes of Us the viewer will see the suspense and thriller most associated with full feature films. While this production is innovative in context it did not have that specific jolt to wow the viewer. Each morsel of Horror infused narratives begins and retires without fanfare. In fact, I had to rewind the endings for the first and second segments to seize the climactic presentation.

I appreciated the grounded plots that tie into one central topic. While the scare factor takes a backseat it is the character-driven narratives and external conflicts that prove to be the principal aspect. The varieties presented with each story is a highlight.

What Becomes Of Us

In Closing

What Becomes of Us is a fine interpretation of modern Horror set against varied subtexts. The collective storylines are well executed with a fine exhibition of visuals and acting. While the film does not convey heavy infusions of terror and/or the unknown the grounded acts become good contributors of Horror.

What Becomes of Us has a roster of talented actors yet there is a lack of diversity. I would have favored a wider range of different nationalities with emphasis on leads and/or supporting roles.
