The premise of the Saw franchise is simple. A random, unsuspecting person or a group of unsuspecting people become victims to a deranged psychopath, known as “Jigsaw”, who is a mastermind of creating brutal, hard to escape traps.
The traps are probably the scariest part of the films. Victims are put in life or death situations: all a part of Jigsaw’s ruthless game. If you follow the rules of the game, you may get out alive. I don’t think I need to say what happens if the rules are not followed.
Every victim is, unjustifiably, abducted and imprisoned for a specific reason. It all comes down to a deep message that Jigsaw has conjured up:
To be grateful for what you have because it could be taken away from you in the blink of an eye. Of course, Jigsaw could attest to this, as he suffered from cancer, and on the brink of his final days.
The franchise is comprised of seven installments, with Legacy being it’s eighth and latest installment. The journey has definitely been a rough one. Starting out with the creative duo masterminds behind the franchise, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, The franchise made an intriguing introduction.
Since Wan handed Saw over to Leigh Whannell after the first installment, the franchise has lost its touch. The second and third installments were decent, but after that, they just became blurred and confused.
Saw: Legacy will release October 27, 2017.
