First Impressions

Chupacabra Territory had the original title; Lair of the Beast. The story follows four friends on a journey to search for the legendary Chupacabra. What the curious thrill seekers find will shock them. They become stranded in the woods with something or someone on their trail. The group has become the hunted.

Chupacabra Territory as hinted in the trailer plays in the found footage genre. A lot of found footage films end up disappointing the viewer. These films have a tendency to lead and come up with an empty feeling finale.

In the clip, something is chasing the young adults, but you can’t make out what exactly is it. This is where found footage filming gets confusing and annoying. The viewer can speculate that the legendary creature is the pursuer. Everything shown is shadows, distorted figures, and something completely different.

Likewise, I happen to like films based on the legendary Chupacabra. This is one of the few cryptozoological creatures that fascinate me. Although McWilliams’ film is Found Footage I would give it a chance and watch it.
