A pulpy, action monster movie, inspired by Cinemaware’s cult 1980s video game It Came from the Desert. First Impressions:

I consider myself a geek sometimes so when I read this I wondered why I never played the video game It Came from the Desert before. If the film is inspired by the game and if the film really stands on its own as a fun-tastic experience as the trailer shows us, I believe it is pretty awesome. I should definitely give it a try sometime.

Now back to the trailer! That was a fast, intense, action-packed and visually beautiful trailer. I’m eager to see this. The part that really stood out was the animation they added to create a surreal universe attached to it. That was a great idea and I wonder if it ever made to the final version of the film or if it was done as a purpose for the trailer. I guess we need to watch the film to figure it out. It Came from the Desert opts obviously for warm colors as a reflection of the desert and the weather. It works for a film of this caliber and it reveals a lot of contrast which can be good if there are bloody scenes.

I’m glad that the comedy here doesn’t seem to be that predictable and I really hope they focus it mostly on the ants, who seem adorable and less deadly that they are. That would be a brilliant idea for it to be old school and since the film is based on a video game from the 80s, it would definitely bring out the weird, grotesque and overacted vibe from that time in cinema.

It Came from the Desert reminded me of Eight Legged Freaks starring a David Arquette and a young Scarlett Johansson. Never been a fan of that film but It Came from the Desert really seems to have the same context about it with all the motocross and the action sequences. I just hope it has a smarter script.

In Conclusion

It Came from the Desert does have the appeal it gives by reading out the synopsis and the trailer is really well edited. I am curious to watch this. If you’re into comedy, horror, and action you should enjoy this flick.
