First Impressions:
Let’s get it out of the way: yes, Ryan Reynolds who plays Deadpool is indeed Pikachu. As an audience member who has grown accustomed to Deadpool, we are challenged to watch one of our favorite lovable and sometimes sassy anime character be voiced by an actor and disassociate him from a past role. Can we do it? Well, I did.
The trailer wraps every generation that can be associated with the boom of pokemon. There are those who grew up playing the cards, those who were forced to buy the trading cards for their children to avoid a meltdown, and the generation that came after the peak of the Pokémon craze. The trailer had the inclusive ability to bring together these three generations with its familiar characters, classic “Happy Together” track by the Turtles, and rewarding CGI effects.
