A weekend camping trip among six old friends in Northern Minnesota’s “Boundary Waters” turns tragic after one dies under mysterious circumstances, triggering further turmoil as they attempt to unmask the killer within their own group.
Six friends, who have known each other for ages, plan a long-overdue camping trip. This reunion is supposed to be filled with enormous amounts of beer, fun, and plenty of machismo. When one of the group is found dead, the weekend becomes one of shock and horror in this twisted “whodunnit” tale.
Stillwater appears, at a first glance, to be a mashup between The Blair Witch Project and Without a Paddle. The lighting and cinematography, however, tell me that this film might be a bit easier to watch than either of the previously mentioned films. From the moment that the trailer tells us of the murder, until the end, I found myself to be more and more curious. It was intriguing, to say the least.
Despite that the characters in the film seem to lack the depth that would normally draw me to watch a film, the acting was very convincing, and I am looking forward to watching Stillwater in its entirety. Stillwater combines elements of a classic murder mystery with just the right amount of debauchery and gore; it will certainly be worth watching.
