Channel Zero: Candle Cove – Season 1 Overview

Syfy and Universal Cable Productions greenlit more seasons for Channel Zero. The announcement released yesterday, the 9th of February 2017.
Channel Zero is a Horror anthology television series. The concepts center on online tales published on Creepypasta.

While the concept and execution deserve praise is the extension to this series warranted?

Channel Zero proved to be a risk and a trial run for Syfy. To reinforce the statement we can see that only six episodes composed the first season. Here are the ratings for Channel Zero season one. You Have to Go Inside S1, Ep1 ( 0.761 million viewers)

The return of a kids’ TV show from the 1980’s coincides with the disappearance of a young child.

I’ll Hold Your Hand S1, Ep2  ( 0.626 million viewers, A -17.74% Decline)

Marla agrees to help Mike investigate the murders, and is horrified to learn about what happened in 1988, that’s been hidden since that time.

Mike must convince Gary that Candle Cove is behind the murders; Marla, Jessica, and Amy frantically search for Mike.

A Strange Vessel S1, Ep4   (0.465 million viewers, A –15.76% Decline)

Mike’s daughter Lily mysteriously arrives in Iron Hill, leading to more information about the murders of 1988; Mike and Jessica take drastic measures to heal the past and protect Lily from Candle Cove.

Guest of Honor S1, Ep5  (0.435 million viewers, A -6.45% Decline)

Mike and Amy learn that the creator of Candle Cove isn’t who they think; A brutal crime shocks the Iron Hill police force.

Welcome Home S1, Ep6 (0.421 million viewers, -3.22% Rise)

After Lily is taken by Candle Cove, Mike puts himself in danger to save her and confront his tormentor; Marla faces an impossible choice.

From the statistics provided above it is obvious season one did below average. The viewership can also be classified as poor. Each week the ratings tumbled yet remaining under a defined figure. Yet, according to the press release;

The first installment in the anthology series, the six-part Candle Cove, landed on several “Best TV of 2016”

Channel Zero did offer a strong entry to Horror television programming. The story had substance with intriguing characters and frightening circumstances. Let’s wait and see what’s in development for the next instance of Channel Zero
