Exorcist Television Series In Development

Exorcist, the 1973 timeless masterpiece will be arriving at the small screen soon.  ur article published January 2016, shed light on the modernization to this Horror classic. Voiced also were ample reason why a television adaptation to “The Exorcist” is a bad idea. A franchise spawned from the success of the original. Yet, none of the successors would garner the acclaim as the 1973 original. The last entry in the franchise was the 2005 “Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist”.  William Peter Blatty’s  1971 best-selling novel is the source material for the original film.

News of this television production has possessed the Horror community in recent weeks (pun intended). Here’s the latest information on this upcoming television series set to air on FOX. The pilot is currently under development. The project is a joint production between 20th Century Fox Television and Morgan Creek Productions.

Jeremy Slater is on board as writer and producer. David C. Robinson will also be contributing as executive producer.  Robinson also served as executive producer to “Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist”, and “Exorcist: The Beginning”. Robinson is familiar with the success (or lack thereof) towards the film franchise. Also contributing as executive producer is Barbara Wall. Directing the pilot episode is Rupert Wyatt.

The logline to “The Exorcist” television series reads as follows:

“More than four decades after the Academy Award-nominated film solidified itself as the greatest horror movie ever made, The Exorcist returns in series format as a propulsive psychological thriller following two very different priests tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession”.

Cast:

Ben Daniels Father Marcus Lang

Geena Davis Angela Rance

Camille Guaty Olivia

Alfonso Herrera Father Tomas Ortega

Brianne Howey Charlotte

On the 29th of February, 2016 Deadline reported that Hannah Kasulka joined the cast. Kasulka will portray the character; Casey Rance.

The article goes on to describe the television adaptation to the 1973 classic as a:

“….propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil….”

Bloody-Disgusting released an exclusive still image from “The Exorcist” pilot. Kudos to the Horror themed news source for contributing the image. Yet, there is nothing thrilling to assimilate. The still is a dull capture of two in- scene characters staring into someplace above. A roar of excitement sweeps across the Horror landscape. Hardly.

This reimagined version to the 1973 classic may seem exciting. Yet, the defining factor is the final product. Needed is a solid production. A contribution that will steer the franchise away from the doldrums of inadequate sequels. Horror enthusiasts will just have to wait and see the outcome of the television adaptation will be.

Stay tuned to DecayMag.com for further developments on “The Exorcist” television series.
