Scream Queens Season 2 confirms FOX

Scream Queens Overview

Despite suffered spiraling ratings Horror comedy “Scream Queens” will return for a second season. The series was FOX network’s answer to MTV’S “Scream”. Each program aired at a different date and times  yet presented a similar concept. The “who did it?” mystery Thrillers targeted the young adult demographic. While “Scream” offered serious overtones, “Scream Queens” delivered campiness.  This is a sample for an in depth discussion for a later time. Let’s shift our attention on why “Scream Queens” justified its return.

“Scream Queens” Woeful Ratings

A one hundred twenty foot ride at comic served as a promotional tool for “Scream Queens” at comic con. Interactive promos for the Horror, Mystery, Comedy flooded social network platforms. Yet “Scream Queens” earned lackluster ratings. The series premier earned an estimated four million viewers. In comparison, the season finale earned a paltry 2.6 million viewers. Why should “Scream Queens” make a return? Perhaps the answer lies within the following revelation.

According to Entertainment Weekly, “Scream Queens” writer-producer Ryan Murphy has a relationship with Fox. How deeply rooted is this working relationship? Airing on FX is “American Horror Story” a project spearheaded by Ryan Murphy.  FX is an affiliate network to Fox. In other words, if “Scream Queens” lacks substance it will continue to air. A decision based on the working marriage between Ryan Murphy and the Fox Network.

Fox hopes viewership for “Scream Queens” will increase. They expect the rise to derive from DVR and streaming platforms (Hulu and Fox now).

“Scream Queens” Cast

According to Deadline Emma Roberts, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Billie Lourd , Skyler SamuelsJamie Lee Curtis and the core cast are all expected to return in “Scream Queens” season two. From a business prospective each have multi-year contracts with the network. Since the actresses have solidified their deals, a second season was bound to happen. It comes to no surprise that members of the cast took to social media to express content on the show’s return (see below).

“Scream Queens” Finale

The finale was flat and didn’t offer anything to grant a season two revival.  The following sentences contains spoilers:

The ending was predictable. The twist offered was a typical Horror cliche. The finale reveals character Hester portrayed by Lea Michele to be the serial killer. Characters Gigi Caldwell portrayed by Nasim Pedrad and Boon Clemens portrayed by  Nick Jonas also had embodied the role of the killer. Kappa queen, Chanel Oberlin and her sorority sisters were issued a stay at a mental asylum.

“Scream Queens” Season 2

According to Fox.com

Season Two of SCREAM QUEENS graduates from the college campus and into an all-new location, as a terrifyingly funny murder mystery will begin once again. This time, the show will be set in a hospital, where some of the most fascinating and bizarre medical cases are under observation.

As we can see, season two will take place in an asylum. Much like “American Horror Story” did in season two. Is this a recurring pattern for Ryan Murphy?  Will “Scream Queens” season three feature witches? On thing is certain, “Scream Queens” season two will continue from events of season one.
