Spike TV’s The Mist, Season 1, Episode 5 brings light on a few things. This is an episode for skeletons and old ghosts, for a lack of better terms. With flashbacks of recent conversations, Kevin wants to know more about Eve’s past and the mysterious confrontations between her and his brother, Mike. Eve reveals shocking news that baffles Kevin. Fast-forward to the Present Day, Mike also reveals the surprising news.
The action is minor and limited in this episode. What we see now is the chaos in the hospital. Many people are getting sick, due to the Mist. The hospital is running out of beneficial resources due to the increase in patients and residents desperate to seek shelter from the Mist.
Kevin Cunningham (Morgan Spector), Adrian Garff (Russell Posner), Mia Lambert (Danica Curcic), and Bryan Hunt (Okezie Morro) to the hospital due to Bryan being injured in a confrontation, as can be seen in the beginning glimpse from the previous episode.
While Bryan is being accompanied by Mia, Kevin wanders off on his own in search of Eve and Alex. With no luck on finding them, he runs into his brother, Mike, who is injured and has little chance of survival. Meanwhile, Adrian attempts to patch up any old wounds up with Tyler Denton (Christopher Gray) hoping to start something special.
Mike recounts a recent run-in with some neighborhood teenagers that resulted in him lying on his possible deathbed if he doesn’t get immediate help. Kevin tends to him and attempts to aid his wounds. He also reminisces on events that happened with his wife, Eve prior to the mysterious mist that threw the town into a frenzy.
During his attempt to save his brother, they get a closer glimpse of one of the many things that can lurk inside of the Mist and cause chaos among the patients. However, this entity is only a sign. There is much more inside the lethal haze. “The calm before the storm”, as the saying goes.
During this chaos, a few personal stories intertwine. Not only that of Kevin, Eve, and Mike. Mia and Bryan develop a strong interest in each other, which is disrupted by the madness going on and his condition. Adrian develops a strong interest in Tyler, which is apparent that the interest has been there all along, but overshadowed by their differences.
Translating back to The Mist film adaptation by Frank Darabont, what lurks within the haze is much different. At least at this point in the series. It’s still early, and things are still on the calmer side of the battlefield. I predict more revelations opening up as the series continues.
Will Kevin reunite with his family? Is there a new chapter for Mia and Bryan? How will things progress for Adrian and Tyler? I speculate there’s a darker presence within the Mist than what’s shown so far. What new obstacles and struggles awaits in the upcoming episodes?
