Death Race Film Overview
Death Race 2000 released in 1975. Paul Bartel directed the film based from the script written by Robert Thom, Charles B. Griffith, and Ib Melchior. The Action infused dystopian concept became a cult classic. “Death Race 2000” offers an original testosterone driven plot that transcends eras. It’s without a doubt a film ahead of its time.
The synopsis to the film “Death Race 2000” reads as follows:
In a dystopian future, a cross country automobile race requires contestants to run down innocent pedestrians to gain points that are tallied based on each kill’s brutality.
In 2008 a reboot to “Death Race”released in theaters. The revisited feature starred Jason Statham as the iconic protagonist Frankenstein. Actor Tyrese Gibson portrays the role of Machine Gun Joe. Perhaps Gibson was riding the success of the 2003 street racing-adrenaline driven feature. (pun intended.) This time G.J. Echternkamp. Matt Yamashita will direct the modernized concept. Anderson would penned the script and rework the original source material. The screenplay offered by Paul W.S. Anderson presented a story that is on par with the the 1975 original.

Ex-con Jensen Ames is forced by the warden of a notorious prison to compete in our post-industrial world’s most popular sport: a car race in which inmates must brutalize and kill one another on the road to victory.
The moderate success of the 2008 reboot spawned two direct to DVD releases. Roel Reiné would direct both releases. “Death Race released In 2010 and “Death Race: Inferno” released in 2014.

“Death Race” Franchise Reignites!
Roger Corman worked on the “Death Race” movie franchise since its 1975 release. He’s served as producer to each adaptation leading up to the 2014 lackluster offering. Corman is now leading “Death Race” is on course for another reboot (Yes, another pun). The news originated from an article featured in The Hollywood Reporter. “Death Race 2050” began filming on February 2016 in Peru. Directing and co-writing this next installment to the franchise is G.J. Echternkamp. Matt Yamashita serves as script co-writer. Roger Corman will once again fill the seat as navigator/producer.
Roger Corman shared the following statement regarding the next feature to the “Death Race” franchise”. He states:
“…This is an amazing opportunity for me and millions of Death Race2000 fans to experience the intensity, thrills and dark humor of the original, fueled by a terrific young cast, spectacular vehicles and side-splitting action, literally.”
