Prometheus sequel production details…
Prometheus Ridley Scott’s 2012 SciFi film was the much anticipated prequel to the 1979 Horror/SciFi Alien. However, the addition the latest entry to the Alien franchise garnered mixed reviews among fans. Despite the reception a sequel was already in talks and promised to explore the story of The Engineers after the first instalment cliffhanger ending.
Ridley Scott recently disclosed that a series of Prometheus films will be produced leading up to the first Alien film. The news also comes on the heels of Neill Blomkamp’s announcement of directing Alien 5 which is due to start production. Ridley Scott, spoke about the upcoming sequel, the franchise, and rebrand in an interview entertainment news website; Heyuguys.
Firstly, Ridley Scott disclosed a title change for the upcoming SciFi feature from Prometheus 2 to Aliens: Paradise Lost. Ridley Scott states:
“Paradise is a very ominous word. In a way it is Prometheus 2. It’s exactly the same story. But it was always in the works to be called that. Is Prometheus actually taking us off course from where I’m going, which is actually backing into the first Alien… I’ve even got connections with Ripley, but I’m not telling you what.”
How will Alien: Paradise Lost aka Prometheus 2 tie into the Alien franchise, especially being that these installments are the backstory, the prequel to the 1979 Horror / SciFi film, Alien? Ridley Scott replied by stating:
“but it won’t be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the ‘Alien’ franchise… The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself.”
It will be very interesting to see how the whole Prometheus franchise will pan out. Basically, it seems as though creating the film as a multi-chapter film is a clever way of milking the already flatlined Alien franchise. More details will be posted on decaymag.com as soon as it develops.
