Players wield the ability to aid or deceive in an era where totalitarianism governs man. Players assume the title role as Carl, administrator of a state-operated apartment building. Dire decisions will test principles. The protagonist serves as successor the position left unfulfilled by the former servant.
Each decision alters direction to the storyline, therefore, endings change with each approach. Big Brother surveillance is another narrative element found in Beholder. Portraying the landlord also entails the role of a spy. Collecting intelligence is crucial. Options are available to carry out this assignment. One technique is by eavesdropping on residents. Another means in gathering evidence is with clandestine searches. Providing said findings to the authorities are the expression of allegiance.
It seems Beholder mirrors our post 911 era.The Ministry of Introductions serves as the antagonizing force for the in-game narrative. Its curious, what operating authority in today’s society does this fictitious organization mirror? George Orwell’s grim perspective in 1984 serves as the influence for Beholder.
