Okinawa Rush is a forthcoming indie game that pays homage to classic sidescrollers. With its emphasis on action-oriented themes these titles once popularized quarter arcades. At the time gaming consoles were in its infancy. Sidescroller type games transitioned over from the arcade to consoles but soon became antiquated with as advancements of gaming technology.
Based in Gillingham, England Sokaikan is restoring old aesthetics using new school technology. With the evolution of gaming engines running HD level graphic is there a market for old-school games?
Okinawa Rush combines traces of the supernatural, myth and a revenge story. The protagonist embarks on a one-man quest to defeat his nemesis. Set against a throwback era in Japan players will engage in combat with ninjas, monsters, and brutish henchmen. There’s also the interaction with non-playable characters (NPC’s) that aid the hero’s journey.
Available is the demo version of Okinawa Rush.
At first glance its easy to see the refined level of detail that went into the graphics. Sokaikan didn’t opt for 8-bit graphics here. From the footage, Okinawa Rush offers exceptional degrees of non-stop battles. It appears combination attacks comprise the strategy which conveys the game to be a button smasher fun.
Whether you’re young enough to remember the sidescroller arcade games of yesteryear or not Okinawa Rush will cater to every level of gaming enthusiast.
