Silent Hills, is it Slated For A Return?
Silent Hills Overview
Silent Hills, would have been the tenth installment to the Survival Horror franchise. The project featured a team of horror visionaries led by video game designer Hideo Kojima. Collaborating on the development team were manga Illustrator Junji Ito and film director Guillermo del Toro. Portraying the protagonist of to the game was revealed to be Norman Reedus, star of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”. “Silent Hills” was slated as a PlayStation 4 exclusive developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami.
On August 2014, gamers got a first glimpse on what the game had to offer. The demo/trailer titled “P.T.” (Playable Teaser) was made available as a free download via the PlayStation Store. The game rose in popularity becoming a sensation among Horror gaming enthusiasts. Below is the complete walk-through game play footage for “P.T.”
Soon thereafter some friction began to unfold between Hideo Kojima and Konami. Rumors on the demise of “Silent Hills” would mount in the months that followed. On the 27th of April 2015 Konami Issued the following statement:
“Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.”
The announcement released the day after director Guillermo del Toro revealed the game’s cancellation during San Fransisco Film Society event. He stated:
“It’s not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart.”
Norman Reedus, announced the cancellation to “Silent Hill” on social networking platform; Twitter. Reedus posted the following Tweet:

Promo material disappeared immediately after the “Silent Hills” cancellation. The image of Norman Reedus disappeared from the official Silent Hills website. The “Silent Hills” Playable Teaser also vanished from the PlayStation Network Store. Konami would later state that both Reedus’ contact and the distribution period for “P.T.” had expired.

Rumors are beginning to swirl once again surrounding “Silent Hills”. In a recent turn of events Hideo Kojima reunited with Norman Reedus. What is the purpose of this casual meet? Kojima’s company, it seems. The only source of information is the Tweet offered by Hideo Kojima. Yet, this is source doesn’t confirm any relation to the cancelled project

Norman Reedus incited suspicions to a possibly resurgence of the now defunct “Silent Hill” title. Reedus Took to Social Media platform; Instagram and posted the logo to Kojima Productions.
This is where things get interesting. The Annual D.I.C.E Summit begins on the 17th of February 2016. The event takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scheduled to attend are Guillermo del Toro, Hideo Kojima and Norman Reedus. D.I.C.E will induct Hideo Kojima into it’s Hall of Fame. Delivering the show’s keynote address is Guillermo Del Toro. The gaming community is waiting on baited breath for any news reveals.
Let’s not make assumptions. The postings on social media by Norman Reedus and Hideo Kojima are baseless. The sources can’t verify that the “Silent Hills” project is greenlit. Until official announcements, these Tweets and Posts are fuel for the rumor mill.
